Meadowbank House

Keppie Design won the competition for the £6m refurbishment of the existing 1970s, 8 storey government offices for the Registers of Scotland. Part of the client’s aspiration was to change their image/external perception, so not only was an appraisal of the building’s fabric, M&E and finishes undertaken, we also worked closely with the client through a series of staff consultations to look at their current workplace behaviour with a view to introducing new methods of working to ensure an efficiency & flexibility was achieved for the building and organisation as a whole. This resulted in a part new-build section and refurbishment of the core public spaces and floorplates. A new extension was also created for the public areas of the building, enhancing the entrance and public interface.

Keppie led the consultancy team and successfully overcame the challenges of refurbishing a building with over 1000 staff in a live operation. Registers of Scotland are delighted with the completed building and have received positive feedback from both staff members and the public.
