NHS Education for Scotland

The brief was to design office and training room layouts for NHS Education for Scotland within three floors of a new Grade A office building at West Port, Edinburgh. In exploring optional workstyles, the importance of key departmental adjacencies and their current / future work culture were fundamental to the success of the final space planning solution. During the latter stages of the Edinburgh fit-out we were advised that a similar facility would follow directly after in Glasgow. Recognising the staff engagement workshops, optineering and space planning which had been carried out for the Edinburgh facility, provided the ability for the work culture ethos to be adopted however the final design was amended taking into account lessons learnt from the Edinburgh facility.

Both new facilities provide modern workplaces as well as extensive training facilities for NHS staff. The overall design is simple to reflect the contemporary architecture of the buildings. The carefully considered spaceplanning ensures the open plan spaces flow and are broken up with a range of training, meeting and breakout spaces.
