Capitol Cinema

Situated on Union Street in the centre of Aberdeen, Keppie Design was appointed to design an office development for the former Capitol Cinema site. The project encompasses the restoration and redevelopment of the B listed, original art deco cinema building. This is sensitively integrated into the new 10 storey office development behind, providing an entrance and reception. The link between the “old” and “new” elements is via escalators to reduce the visual impact and overshadowing effect the office building might have potentially had on Union Street.

The BREEAM “Very Good” new build section has been designed to maximise parking opportunities at lower levels whilst allowing for all new offices levels to be provided with fantastic light and views across the city.

Due to the complex three dimensional relationships between the site levels and the existing building, a point cloud survey was undertaken of the current building and the features to be retained, ensuring a greater degree of accuracy which was incorporated into the BIM model.
