Keppie Partners with Emmaus Glasgow to Raise £20k for Homelessness Support

We are thrilled to announce a new and exciting partnership between Keppie and Emmaus Glasgow, a charity dedicated to supporting people who have experienced homelessness. Over the next two years, we aim to raise £20,000 to help Emmaus Glasgow continue their vital work in providing accommodation, support, and meaningful work opportunities to those in need.

HOMELESSNESS IN SCOTLAND: THE NEED FOR SUPPORT

The issue of homelessness remains a significant challenge in Scotland. From April 2023 to March 2024, there were 40,685 homelessness applications, a 4% increase from the previous year. During this period, 33,619 households were assessed as homeless, including 38,075 adults and 15,474 children. The number of households in temporary accommodation rose to 16,300, a 9% increase, with 10,110 children included in this figure. Additionally, the number of households reporting rough sleeping the night before their application increased from 1,493 to 1,916. As of March 31, 2024, there were 31,870 open homelessness cases, an 8% increase from the previous year.

These statistics highlight the ongoing challenges and the critical need for support and resources to address homelessness in Scotland.

WHY EMMAUS GLASGOW?

Emmaus Glasgow provides a unique solution to homelessness by offering not just a bed for the night, but a home, meaningful work, and a sense of belonging. Their holistic approach helps individuals regain their self-esteem and independence, making a lasting difference in their lives.

KICKING OFF WITH A STEP CHALLENGE

To kickstart our fundraising efforts, we launched our annual company-wide, Step Challenge on 20th January, running until 2nd March. This initiative encourages our team, clients, and community to get moving and contribute to a great cause. Participants will track their steps, with a goal of 10,000 per person per day, all while raising awareness and funds for Emmaus Glasgow.

OUR COMMITMENT TO CHARITABLE CAUSES

At Keppie, giving back to the community is one of our core values. Over the years, we have supported various initiatives, including:

• Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH): Our partnership with SAMH in 2023 and 2024 raised over £21,000 to support mental health services across Scotland.
• Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS): In 2020, 2021 and 2022, we raised over £30,000 for CHAS, supporting their work in providing palliative care and family support for children with life-shortening conditions.
• Team Hamish: In 2018 and 2019, we partnered with TeamHamish, a charity led by our very own Sam Hey. We raised over £17,000, which helped to fund Nairn Spashpad, in memory of Sam’s son, Hamish.
